This workshop establishes the core framework of doula work and creates a shared foundation for all trainees moving through the certification process.

Rather than focusing on hands-on techniques, this session centers the values, scope, ethics, and responsibilities that guide safe, professional, and sustainable doula care.

By the end of this workshop, trainees will be able to:

  • Clearly articulate the role of a doula and its boundaries

  • Understand scope of practice, ethics, and professional responsibility

  • Describe the foundational principles of emotional, physical, and informational support

  • Identify how doulas function within medical, community, and public health systems

  • Reflect on cultural humility, advocacy, and power dynamics in birthwork

  • Understand expectations for professionalism, boundaries, and accountability

This workshop ensures that all trainees operate from the same ethical and conceptual baseline.
